23.05.2023 Results of the first International Open Competitions in Rocket Modeling Sport were summed up

The International Open Competitions «The Cup named after A.A. Leonov» on Rocket Modeling Sport ended at Leonov University of Technology.

This year, the university, with the support of the State Corporation «Roscosmos», held the competitions in rocket modeling of an international scale for the first time. About 130 young rocket modelers from Russia and Uzbekistan took part in them.

For two days at Monino aerodrome, the guys in the younger and older age groups competed in launching models of rockets of various classes: S3A/2 (for the duration of the descent with a parachute), S4A/2 (for the duration of the flight), S6A/2 (for the duration of the descent with the tape), S7 (copies of rockets for flight realism), S9A/2 (for the duration of the flight with a rotor), S10A (for the duration of the flight with a «soft wing»).

The struggle was intense. The participants had several attempts to successfully launch their rocket models, after which the jury – professionals in rocket modeling – gave the guys points. The higher the number of points, the higher the chances of winning the Cup.

At the solemn award ceremony, the well-deserved diplomas, cups and prizes were presented to the winners by the acting First Vice-Rector of the University of Technology Vyacheslav Startsev, the Hero of Russia, the pilot-cosmonaut Sergei Ryzhikov and the Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists of the city of Korolev Konstantin Alyoshin.

The educational program organized by the University of Technology became a real gift for all participants of the Cup. The young rocket modelers and their coaches visited the Museum of Cosmonautics of the University of Technology, the Central Museum of the Air Force and the Museum of RSC «Energia» named after S.P. Korolev. In addition, the participants were able to communicate with the cosmonaut Sergei Ryzhikov in the format of a live conversation, ask him the questions about space flights and the everyday life of cosmonauts on the International Space Station, and get an advice from him on how to build a career in the rocket and space industry.

The participants of the First International Open Competitions in Rocket Modeling Sports of Leonov University of Technology noted that they are already ready to start preparing for the next Cup and are looking forward to 2024, when they will again be able to show their skills in rocket science and compete with the best rocket modelers of Russia and foreign countries for the victory.
